Embark on an unforgettable expedition to the Torres del Avellano, a remote and untouched destination in the heart of Chilean Patagonia. Our journey begins in Coyhaique, where we set off toward the starting point of the trek. Along the way, our expert local guides, who are deeply familiar with the region, will accompany you to ensure a safe and enriching experience.
As you progress, you’ll cross native forests and ascend to the base camp, enjoying panoramic views of the towering granite spires of the Torres del Avellano. Each day is carefully planned to let you fully immerse yourself in this unique environment, including a day dedicated to exploration, with the option to hike to nearby viewpoints offering unparalleled vistas of Patagonia.
The adventure concludes with a descent and return to Coyhaique, leaving you with unforgettable memories of an epic journey in one of Chile’s most spectacular locations. Itinerary:
- Day 1 – Pick-up at your accommodation and transfer to the trailhead at Las Horquetas. Start the hike through forests and rivers until reaching the first campsite near the Río Turbio valley.
Hiking Time: 4–5 hours
Camp: Río Turbio or Guarderia (depending on weather and group pace)
- Day 2 – Begin the ascent to the El Peñón Pass, the highest point of the trek (~1,400 m). From there, enjoy panoramic views of Cerro Castillo’s north face and surrounding valleys. Descend and set camp near the lagoon area.
Hiking Time: 6–7 hours
Camp: Laguna Cerro Castillo
- Day 3 – Trek alongside glacial moraines and alpine lakes before entering the forest again. Cross several rivers and enjoy the diverse landscapes of the Aysén region.
Hiking Time: 6–7 hours
Camp: El Bosque or Porteadores - Day 4 – Final descent toward the southern exit of the park. Reach the end of the trail and transfer back to your accommodation.
Hiking Time: 3–4 hours
End: Afternoon drop-off at your accommodation - ⚠️ Total distance: approx. 51 km / 31 miles
- ⛰️ Elevation gain: 2,300 m ascent – 2,700 m descent
Requirements and Restrictions:
- Participants must be in good physical shape and able to trek for several hours on uneven terrain.
No heart or mobility issues. Not recommended for sedentary individuals.
Necessary gear:
Backpack (50–70 liters)
Trekking shoes or boots
Warm clothing (base layer, fleece, down or synthetic jacket)
Waterproof jacket and pants (Gore-Tex or similar)
2–3 pairs of technical socks
Hat, neck gaiter (buff), and gloves
UV-protection sunglasses and sun cap
Sunscreen and lip balm
Water bottle or hydration bladder (minimum 1 liter capacity)
Headlamp with extra batteries
Trekking poles
Underwear and sleeping clothes
Personal hygiene items and lightweight towel
Personal trash bag
Personal ID and medical insurance
Optional (but recommended):
Personal sleeping bag (if you prefer to use your own)
Camera or smartphone with external battery
Additional personal snacks
Trekking poles (if not requested in advance)
Required Experience and Technical Skills:
- Basic mountain trekking skills.
- Participants per Guide: Maximum of 4 participants per guide.
